You'll get so many posts like this from eager DJs. Enthusiasm is great, but let's really talk about the important details you've gotta know. Any serious DJ should be able to answer these questions quickly and confidently and sell you on their expertise for your wedding.
QUESTION ONE:
Is your DJ an experienced Wedding DJ? Weddings require so many more skills than just an occasional gig DJ. You need your DJ to be a confident, experienced emcee host for your wedding guests, not just a guy with a laptop playing the songs. They need to be organized and able to manage stress. How frequently do they perform weddings? Do they use professional quick-mixing skills or do they just play one song after another?
QUESTION TWO:
IMPORTANT! Will the DJ you book be the actual DJ that arrives on your wedding day or do they have the option to sub-contract your wedding to someone else? What is their plan if a life emergency should happen to them?
QUESTION THREE:
What kind of equipment will they use? Does it look clean and attractive? Ask for photos and make sure it will be adequate (and not overkill) for your number of guests. Do they have a separate system for your ceremony or will you have to wait on them to haul their speakers from the ceremony to the reception? Do they have a battery system if your ceremony is outdoors? What backup plan do they have for equipment failure?
QUESTION FOUR:
How does their payment agreement work? Will you be paying a deposit? Do they charge travel fees? If their package is a set number of hours, what happens if your party lasts longer? Do they offer a performance guarantee or allow payments?
Be cautious of the cheapest DJ you find, or a DJ who seems willing to book your wedding at any price.
QUESTION FIVE:
Do they have experience with performing at your venue? Do they have a good reputation with the venue owner and your other vendors? Don’t be afraid to ask for recommendations or ask your other vendors if they have worked with your DJ before.
